From house to house the beast of burden carries
The chosen maid and child in her womb.
From door to door her humble husband queries;
He finds no place for them to take a room
But with the sheep and cattle they find shelter
A place to rest before the light of morn
That barn transformed into a royal palace
Fit for a king to stay the night that love was born
This darkest night and all the earth in quiet sleeps
Beneath an endless sky of blackest blue.
The wind blows cold as any sign of life retreats
Save on the barren hills a lonely few
Then blinding light awakens fear in simple hearts
By trumpet blast the silent night is torn
An angel choir sings ""Gloria In Excelsis!""
As heaven's joy pours out the night that love was born.
The chosen maid now lays her babe upon the straw
Beneath an endless sky of brilliant light
As angels watch, the trembling shepherds kneel in awe
Before the holy child born this night.
Here lies the One, the Prince of Peace, Emmanuel
The Son of God, through centuries adored.
Fall on your knees and worship him, the newborn king
God's perfect gift to us the night that love was born
