1.For God alone my soul awaits
in quiet silence still;
from him alone salvation comes.
My rock of strength is he;
my rescue comes from him alone;
my fortress strong is he.
In him alone I am secure;
I’ll not be greatly moved.
2.How long will you attack a man
and batter him again,
as if he were a leaning wall
or like a tott’ring fence?
They plot to bring him toppling down
from his position high;
they lie, give blessings with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse.
3.For God alone O wait, my soul,
in quiet silence still;
my hope in him is ever sure.
My rock of strength is he;
my rescue comes from him alone;
my fortress strong is he.
In him alone I am secure;
I’ll not be greatly moved.
4.From God alone comes saving grace;
my glory rests in him.
My mighty rock and refuge sure
is God, in whom I trust.
On him, O people, evermore,
on him place all your trust;
pour out your hearts before him now;
God is a refuge sure.
5. Those lowly born are but a breath,
those high born but a dream;
together weighed on balances,
they’re lighter than a breath.
So put no trust in robbery,
nor hope in bribing schemes,
and though your riches may increase,
set not your heart on them.
6. For God has truly spoken once;
he twice to me made known:
that strength and pow’r belong to God
and unto him alone;
and steadfast love and grace, O Lord,
belong to you as well,
for you will render to a man
according to his work.
