Chorus:
With the last first and the first one last
and the world turned upside down,
with the slave free and the free held fast,
I'll spin the world around.
One day when the sons of Zebedee
were talking very loud and arguing about
which one would receive the higher place
when Jesus starts his earthly reign,
the Lord took them both aside and said,
""You're talking very loud and arguing about
a choice I will never have to make;
the answer I will never change."" Chorus
He told them about a farm nearby
where laborers were paid five dollars for the day;
but some came too work an hour late
and others came to work at noon.
And then when the working day was done,
the laborers were paid five dollars for the day,
and those how had worked since early morn
were angry 'cause they came too soon. Chorus
You see, an agreement had been made
to pay them all the same; there was not one to blame.
The farmer reserved the right to choose,
and Jesus was a lot like him.
And then the disciples understood--
he'd pay them all the same; there was no one to blame.
They learned that the Lord was fair indeed
and Jesus was the promised one. Chorus
