1.In you, O LORD, I put my trust,
and take my refuge in your name;
redeem me in your righteousness,
and let me not be put to shame.
LORD, turn your ear to hear my cry;
come quickly to deliver me,
and be my rock and firm defense,
my stronghold and security.

2.You are my fortress and my rock,
and for your name’s sake be my guide.
Preserve me from the trap they set;
in you, my refuge, LORD, I hide.
Redeem me, LORD, O God of truth;
my spirit I commit to you.
I hate those trusting worthless gods;
I trust the LORD, for he is true.

3.I take delight and I rejoice
in all the love that you have shown,
for my affliction you have seen;
to you my soul’s distress is known.
And you’ve not left me to my foe,
nor put me in the en’my’s hand,
but you have set my feet within
a spacious place where I may stand.

4.Be gracious, LORD, in my distress;
my eye is wasted in my grief.
My life is spent with sorrow’s sighs;
my strength is sapped by sin’s deceit.
Because of all my enemies,
my neighbors treat me scornfully;
I’m viewed with dread by all my friends—
they see me coming and they flee.

5.Forgotten like the dead am I,
not even spared a passing thought;
like shattered bottles thrown aside,
have I become a useless pot.
I hear the slander many spread,
and terror stalks on ev’ry side.
Against me enemies conspire;
they plot to take away my life.

6. But as for me, I trust you, LORD;
I say, “You are my God alone.”
My times are ever in your hands;
protect from foes who hunt me down.
Your face shine on your servant, LORD,
and save me in your steadfast love.
O let me not be put to shame,
for I have cried to God above.

7. But let the wicked suffer shame
and in the silent grave abide.
Suppress the lying lips which speak
against the just with haughty pride.
Your goodness, LORD, is very great—
prepared for those who fear your name.
You show your goodness openly
to all who your protection claim.

8. Your presence hides and shelters them
from those who plot to take their lives,
and in your tent you keep them safe
from evil tongues that stir up strife.
How blest the LORD, for he has shown
his wondrous, steadfast love to me,
when I was in a city trapped,
surrounded by the enemy.

9. I rashly said, in my alarm,
that I was hidden from your eyes;
but when I called to you for help,
in grace you listened, heard my cries.
O love the LORD, all you his saints!
The LORD preserves his faithful ones,
but he will give the proud their due.
Await the LORD. Take heart, be strong.
